Breath therapy is about the active re-programming or re-conditioning of the quality of your breath, to help you find the way to experiencing wholeness again. Three important application areas of breath therapy are:
- Transforming a lack of energy to abundant energy. This is where, for example, the Kundalini or “fire breath” is often seen;
- To cool down an excess of energy. This is the main purpose of the many diaphragmatic breath exercises that are now available in both the Eastern as well as the Western medical world.
- Stabilizing the entire energetic body, re-harmonizing it again (automatically followed by the physical and mental body to some degree). This is the effect of the breath therapy known as pranayama (literally: balanced breathing).
Breath therapy often turns out to be an effective catalyst or accelerant to get some desired movement in energetic blocks. This creates the space that is needed to further transform the energetic imbalances with supplementary healing methods / therapies. There are well-documented cases of chronic physical symptoms that disappeared almost entiry using solely respiratory therapy.
